A laser printer is the most common form of computer printer that uses highly focused beam of light called the laser beam to produce a high resolution output. It can write letters or draw pictures of high quality on plain paper. It was first developed by Xerox, in the year 1969 and since its introduction for commercial use can be seen in most offices and printing firms. Compared to a photocopier, it is faster, quieter and produces a high quality output.

Although lasers do play a role in printing, surprisingly they are not the light source in a laser color printers. It actually harnesses static electricity to print. Once the printer gets data from the computer it begins its printing process, the controller inside the printer handles the process. Some controllers are even capable of handling many jobs at a time.

Consumers prefer it for the high quality text and graphics. The low cost for running it is also another factor. Owing to the stiff competition in the market, prices of the laser printers have been rapidly decreasing. So to cut the cost manufacturers have come up with new models with improved quality (the standard resolution is now 600dpi) and a small build suitable for home use. Most color printers have black, blue, red and yellow ink. Together they can form any color.

Before buying a laser printers do consider, the speed, resolution, the size of the printable paper, the cost of a toner replacement and few other things.
